Today's Agenda

Our Focus Question:  What practices are followed to ensure safety in the laboratory?

Goals

1. Identify and describe appropriate dress for laboratory investigations. 
2. Identify safe and unsafe laboratory conditions and behaviors. 
3. Follow best practices in the handling of chemicals and equipment in order to minimize exposure to chemicals. 

Activities

1. Bell Ringer
1. Continue were you left off yesterday with the safety activities.  We had done ONE rotation and moved to the next, but you will have a few minutes at that second rotation beginning when the tardy bell rings.
2. Once time is up for the second rotation, be ready for some announcements.
3. I will distribute table tents.  I am practicing names!
2. Housekeeping
1. Did you:
1. Give your parents the reference sheet?
2. Get signed on to Google Classroom?
3. Get your parent/guardian to complete the syllabus and lab safety agreement?
4. Here from your parent/guardian that I sent an email? :-)
2. Classroom:
1. HW is ALWAYS posted there.  Don't forget to check.
2. You will "submit" your pre-lab there and it is due TODAY when the bell rings 12:10.

Our Focus Question:  How do we use what we see to determine what we get in the laboratory?

Goals

1. Review "Math Skills" summer assignment in preparation for your test on August 25th.
2. Determine the density of various objects/substances and report results to the correct number of significant digits including error analysis. 

At all times and with all work, you must show a neatly organized approach WITH units, correct chemical formulas, balanced equations, etc.  

Agenda

1. Practice Lab (9:15 - 9:30)
1. Obtain a pair of goggles and put your name on them using the tape and sharpie provided.
2. Listen for instructions about the lab at the bell.
3. Pair up with ONE other person at your table (see me for permission to work in a group of three).
4. Complete data collection for the density lab.  
2. Data Processing - in groups (9:30 - 9:45)
3. Math Skills - review of summer work (9:45 - 10:35)
1. Compare and discuss your answers.Give each other specific feedback based on the details that are required.  Make note of items you and your group still have trouble with. (10 mins)
2. Work additional problems.  Be prepared to turn them in. You may discuss in groups, but BE SURE that YOU know what you are doing. (40 mins)
3. Q&A with Mrs. Hill (on-going and whole class as needed)
4. Closure
1. Did you go to Google Classroom for your HW last night?  Are you on yet???
2. Complete the Today's Exit Slip.  You can use the form embeded below or go to Classroom to access.  It's due before you leave.  Forms submitted before "Closure" are not valid.  Did you complete the exit slip for yesterday???
3. Did we talk about "Book Club Monday"???
4. Test next week.

3. In the upper right hand corner, write your grade level (10, 11, or 12).
4. In the upper left hand corner, write nothing.
5. In the bottom left hand corner, write a word that describes you.
6. In the bottom right hand corner, write a word that describes chemistry.
2. Introduce yourself to your table mates.  Make sure you know what everyone likes to be called.  Share your summer highlights.
