Learning Goals
- Round calculated measurements to the correct number of sig digs when you:
- Multiply and divide
- Add and subtract.
- Use logarithms.
- Convert one unit to another (e.g., 0.532 cg = ______ mg), showing your work using dimensional analysis.
- Convert squared or cubed units (e.g., knowing how to take 2.54 cm = 1 inch, and get 38.5 in2 = _____ cm2).
- Convert complex units in ONE unit analysis set up (e.g., 0.454 g/cm3 to kg/dL)
- Bell Ringer
- Try some sig dig counting on the website I provided (Item 7 on your I Can list 002)
- Pick up a copy of the conversions/ions sheet. Take great care of it. I may only one copy per student at the beginning of the semester, but allow you to use it throughout the semester.
- Housekeeping
- Commonly used handouts - About Page
- Ion sheets/conversions
- Notes/Practice - Sig Digs in Calculating
- Notes/Practice - Unit Analysis
- Pre-lab - Separating the Components of a Mixture
