Learning Goals
- Write the Ka and Kb expressions for weak acids and bases using correct symbols for all quantities.
- Solve “RICEE” problems involving acid and base equilibria.
- Correctly use the “x is small enough to ignore” approximation when appropriate.
- Know when to use the short cut for Ka problems x = √ (Ka x [HA]o) where HA = generalized acid (and use the shortcut when it applies to Kb problems also).
- Bell Ringer
- Watch the videos and take notes.
- Don't waste time. Use a few minutes to compare your lab results and thinking with your classmates. Lab is due tonight!
- Housekeeping
- Updates to the calendar.
- Paper towels
- If you have a zero for your syllabus and safety agreement (as of 1/23 when I checked)...
- Lab Processing and Completion
- Notes - Bases
- Work Day
Big Ideas
- Big Idea 3: Changes in matter involve the rearrangement and/or reorganization of atoms and/or the transfer of electrons.
- Big Idea 6: Any bond or intermolecular attraction that can be formed can be broken. These two processes are in a dynamic competition, sensitive to initial conditions and external perturbations.
